Kiama’s Pavilion is a hive of activity today with preparations for this weekend’s Roses by the Seaside conference, exhibition and National Rose Championships.
Colin Hollis, President of the Rose Society of NSW, says that excitement has been high among the rose community as this major event has been cancelled for the past two years due to COVID. Rose growers and competitors are thrilled to be able to get their buds and blooms once again on display.
“Organisation has also been very intense with the police and security issues surrounding the arrival of the Rose Society’s National Patron, Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley, wife of the Governor General David Hurley,” Colin says.
Her Excellency will open the Show on Saturday at 1.30pm after a welcome to the Region by the Colin Hollis and the Mayor of Kiama, Neil Reilly.
The public are welcome to view the roses after midday until 5pm on Saturday, and from 9.30am to 4pm on Sunday.
Look forward to seeing a wide variety of roses on display
Awards for roses and for winners of the photographic competition will be announced at a formal dinner at the Kiama Leagues Club on Saturday night.
The exhibited roses will be available for sale to the public at 4.20pm on Sunday.
