Kiama residents still don’t know how long they’ll have to wait for Woolworths and the surrounding stores in Kiama Village to reopen.
The shopping centre temporarily closed in July while Kiama Village undergoes renovations, including a new car park and EV charging stations.
Kiama Village was scheduled to reopen on Wednesday 16 August, however, due to a worksite accident that took place on 27 July that put a contractor in hospital, the entire shopping centre will stay closed until further notice.
This also includes the pop-up store that provided essential items like milk and bread, and the BWS, which remains closed as well.
A spokesperson for Kiama Village said that it was not possible to open again as scheduled, and the centre will stay closed until further notice.
“We’ll be in a position to provide a further update once a new reopening date for the store has been decided,” the spokesperson said.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding of the whole Kiama community during this time.”
Until then, Kiama residents will have to find alternative options to buy groceries and maybe create new habits and buying patterns. A shuttle bus service from Kiama to Shell Cove is operating and services like Driving Miss Daisy are also on hand.
Gerringong, Kiama Downs and Jamberoo all have their own IGA supermarkets in close proximity to their respective town centres which are being well supported, whilst Gainsborough also has a Foodworks. Kiama residents can also visit Top Shop on the north end of Manning Street to buy artisan ingredients and other essentials, or just to check out their quirky signs!
