Sorry for the late notice, but we’ve just heard that NSW Labor leader Chris Minns and members of his shadow cabinet are in town today for a Kiama Labor Policy Forum.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the interactive forum, which is one of many arranged around the state as part of Labor’s policy process ahead of the election on 25 March.
“I am particularly keen to hear from locals about the challenges facing the region’s health system, and how we can tailor our responses and initiatives to best meet their needs,” says Mr Minns.
“After 12 years of neglect under the Liberals and Nationals, the residents of Kiama deserve a government that will listen to and advocate for them.”
Labor candidate for Kiama, Katelin McInerney, says it is a great opportunity to let Labor leaders know about particular issues issues.
“Everyone I hear from has been impacted by the underinvestment and chronic staff shortages at Wollongong, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven hospitals, the shortage of GPs in our area, the lack of available, affordable housing in our electorate, the crisis in our schools, the loss of teachers and nurses out of their industries, the shocking state of our regional roads and the impact this has on local businesses,” she says.
Industry and sector specialists, frontline workers, service providers and local branch members had earlier warning of the forum, which began last night.
Today’s event, at the Kiama Leagues Club, will focus on what Labor sees as the major issues facing the Kiama electorate and the state:
