Gail Morgan has confirmed that her nomination to be the Liberal candidate for Kiama has been rejected by the party's Nominal Review Committee, despite hers being the only accepted nomination.
This leaves the Liberal Party without a candidate for Kiama, just days out from the NSW Electoral Commission's 8 March registration deadline.
The author and poet says her anti-development stance caused the situation to unfold.
"Inevitably when you speak against over development you acquire 'enemies'. My candidacy was rejected on that basis.
"It has been a torrid time with this preselection fiasco - but anyone who knows me, knows my concern rests with the community and the people of Kiama."
A strong advocate for the need for an Arts Centre in Kiama, she explains her reasons for nominating in this way, "One reason I decided to run when invited was to ensure Council did not sell off assets (old ambulance building etc) that would endanger the future of the Centre.

"I also decided to run to protect the community from The Greater Cities Commission which I believe is bi partisan and may result in more inappropriate development along our coast and here in Kiama.
"I believe if we lose our village feel or aesthetic we will no longer be counted as Australia's most liveable town."
A long time member of the Liberal Party, Ms Morgan says, "Gareth has been fully supportive of the Arts Centre and as an Independent may be well placed to hold the developers to account.
"I believe there are forces in all political parties that are malign and must be stood up to."
A report in the Daily Telegraph quoted an leaked email Ms Morgan sent to the Leader of the Opposition in March 2022, which said, "if you can put processes in place to stop out-of-scale development, you will have my vote, and many others."
