Rotary cancels its Antiques & Retro Fair

A number of factors have led to the cancellation of the Kiama Antiques & Retro Fair, the Rotary Club of Kiama’s major annual fundraiser, for the second year.

Organiser John Worstencroft says a number of factors came into consideration when making the decision.

“We were down to fourteen dealers saying they’d come, as a significant number of our dealers had pulled out due to their own concerns, so it wouldn’t have our usual range that the public expects.

“In addition, some of our members are high risk and given the big upswing in numbers we didn’t want to increase their exposure.”

The location of the COVID testing clinic behind the Leisure Centre was also causing some logistical difficulties for the organisers and dealers.

“We were going to follow strict protocols, but there were still underlying concerns,” says John.

“For these whole range of things, we thought it best not to proceed.”

At this stage, consideration is still being given to holding the Fair some other time this year.

Last year, unable to hold the Fair or the Car Spectacular, the Rotary Clubs of Kiama and Gerringong raised money the causes they support by raffling a car.
