Gareth Ward has condemned the NSW Labor Government for voting against the David Berry Hospital Amendment (Prohibition of Sale) Bill 2024, which sought to protect the
hospital from privatisation and keep it within the public health system.
Despite earlier promises to support the hospital, every NSW Labor MP voted against the bill. Ward labelled the decision a “slap in the face” to the Berry community and criticised the Labor Government for ignoring local calls to preserve the hospital.
In a recent statement, Ward also expressed a lack of trust in Labor’s commitment to maintaining the hospital as a public facility, pointing out that even the Greens voted in favour of the bill.
“By voting against this bill, Labor has shown they’d rather play politics than protect David Berry Hospital,” said Ward.
Ward has previously been very vocal in his support for ensuring David Berry Hospital stays in the public health system, recently calling on NSW Health Minister Ryan Park to release the results of a community survey wherein many Kiama residents took part.
More updates to come.
