Belated celebration of Gerringong Soldiers' Memorial Hall centenaryGerringong Sub Branch President Michael O'Leary

The scaffolding is coming down around the Gerringong Soldiers' Memorial Hall, and RSL Sub-Branch President Michael O’Leary couldn’t be happier about the work that has been done.

“Over the past six weeks the guys from Bluestone have done a terrific job with the restoration,” he says

“We chose them because we saw the similar work they had done on Berry Hospital, and it was great to have the involvement of local people.”

The extensive work has included cleaning the memorial stonework and giving it a protective coating, repairing the roof, repainting inside and out, and even painstakingly removing and restoring all of the windows.

The final touches will be done in time for the celebration of the Hall’s centenary (a year late due to COVID) and the launch of a book commissioned to record its history.

“Members of the public are invited to buy tickets to the High Tea, with catering by CMRI Gerringong, to commemorate the anniversary and launch the book,” says Michael.

“With so many people having a connection to the Memorial Hall, we’re having to have the event in the Town Hall.”

Saturday 19 November, Gerringong Town Hall, 4.30-7pm

Tickets $35 at www.trybooking.com/BTGAB

The book will be available for purchase on the night for $40.
